What is Nep Yarn?

Nep Yarn refers to hand-spun yarn originating from Nepal, which is known for its unique texture and quality. The yarn is traditionally made from local fibers such as sheep wool, goat cashmere, yak down, and silk, as well as plant-based fibers like nettle and hemp. The spinning process involves manual labor, where the fibers are twisted into yarn using a spinning wheel or a simple device called a spindle.

Some Ways To Control Neps In Nep Yarn

Proper Fiber Selection
The selection of high-quality fibers is important to minimize the occurrence of neps in yarn. Fibers that are too short or have a high degree of fiber entanglement are more likely to form neps.

Proper Cleaning and Blending
Proper cleaning and blending of fibers can help to remove any impurities or debris that can contribute to neps.

Proper Spinning Conditions
Proper spinning conditions, such as temperature and humidity, can help to minimize the occurrence of neps in yarn. Spinning at a consistent speed and tension can also help to reduce neps.

Regular Equipment Maintenance
Regular maintenance of spinning equipment is important to ensure that it is functioning properly and to identify and address any issues that may be contributing to neps.

Yarn Testing
Regular testing of the yarn can help to identify and address any neps. This can be done using tools such as a yarn nep tester or a fabric inspector.

How to Control Thin-Thick Places in Nep Yarn

People commonly refer to thin and thick places in yarn as yarn irregularities. These can have a negative impact on the quality and appearance of the finished textile product. There are several ways to control thin and thick places in yarn during the spinning process

Proper Fiber Preparation: The spinning process starts with the preparation of the fibers. Proper fiber preparation can help to minimize irregularities in the yarn. This includes using good quality fibers, removing any impurities or debris, and ensuring that the fibers are aligned and evenly distributed.

Proper Tension: Proper tension is critical during the spinning process to control the thickness of the yarn. The tension on the yarn should be consistent throughout the spinning process This effort can minimize the occurrence of thin and thick places.

Spinning Speed: Spinning speed is another important factor that can affect the thickness of the yarn. One should control and adjust the spinning speed as needed to produce yarn with consistent thickness.

Regular Maintenance: Regular maintenance of the spinning equipment is important to ensure that the equipment is functioning properly and to identify and address any issues that may be contributing to yarn irregularities.

Yarn Testing: Regular testing of the yarn can help to identify and address any thin and thick places in the yarn. Using tools such as a yarn evenness tester or a fabric inspector can accomplish this.

Characteristics Of Cotton Nep Yarn

The main characteristics of cotton Nep Yarn include its classification, use, physical and chemical properties.

Classification

Cotton yarn can be divided into carded yarn and combed yarn according to different spinning processes. Carded yarn is yarn spun using ordinary spinning system, while combed yarn is yarn spun using combed spinning system, usually with high-quality raw materials. The fibers in the combed yarn are straight and parallel, with few knots, good luster, uniform yarn and high strength, and are mostly used to weave high-end fabrics.

Uses

Cotton Nep Yarn is widely used in home textile series such as bed sheets, quilt covers, curtains, as well as clothing and other textiles.

Physical and chemical properties
Cotton Nep Yarn has the characteristics of strong hygroscopicity and large shrinkage rate, which is about 4~10%.
It is alkali-resistant but not acid-resistant, and is extremely unstable to inorganic acids. Even very dilute sulfuric acid will be damaged, but it has a weak effect on organic acids and has almost no destructive effect. Cotton cloth is relatively resistant to alkali. Generally, dilute alkali does not affect cotton cloth at room temperature, but after being affected by strong alkali, the strength of cotton cloth will decrease.
It has average light resistance and heat resistance. It will be slowly oxidized in the sun and atmosphere, causing its strength to decrease. Long-term high temperature will damage cotton cloth, but it can withstand short-term high temperature treatment of 125~150℃.
Microorganisms have a destructive effect on cotton fabrics, especially mildew resistance.

Formation And Distribution Of Nep Yarn

The cotton harvest there are many methods can make the raw cotton harvest of nep and impurity is roughly divided into manual picking and harvesting method mechanical harvesting methods, foreign artificial harvesting method is mainly used for picking long-staple cotton and cotton, in addition, shall be given priority to with mechanized harvesting, mechanical harvesting to bring a lot of impurities in cotton, even also has a small amount of nep, to remove impurities difficult cotton ginning mill, also make after crimped wire with a certain number of neps of raw cotton.

There is a contradiction between the removal of impurities in raw cotton and the increase of neps and short lint in the production of clearing. The faster the beater of each part of clearing, the better the removal of impurities. Therefore, it is necessary to make every effort to open the short process of the cotton cleaning production line, optimize the process technology of removing impurities and producing nep, and make every effort to reduce the increase of nep and short pile in the opening of cotton cleaning.

The greater the proportion of immature fibers in raw cotton, the greater the chance of producing neps and short lints. Efforts should be made to control the distribution of immature fibers and reduce the proportion and difference of immature fibers in blended cotton before raw cotton enters the production line for processing.

The carding machine is the main process, reducing neps many nep open or exclusion can be carding on the carding machine, therefore, carding machine to do SiKuai was reasonably, strengthen the carding, especially between flat and cylinder carding effect should be enhanced, the new carding machine is configured with a fixed plate, improve the feed of cotton in the function and the carding effect, these are very important to reduce the nep is to play a role.

The raw cotton neps in online and offline monitoring control, make an increase in the number of control in the production of cotton, the application of AFis raw cotton property tester can check one by one package immature fiber percentage in the raw cotton and cotton knot, in excess of the prescribed indicators to go without, which can control carding neps in the number of each process and new ones such as DK803, DK903, DC03 etc but also dynamic change of on-line detection of nep, according to the increase of nep exception alarm, automatic flat and cylinder, automatic flat grinding, stable product quality.

Reasons for neps in Nep Yarn

Raw materials
If there are impurities and defects in the raw materials, it may cause neps, such as neps formed by fibers attached to the cottonseed skin. The number of neps is an indicator for evaluating the grade of raw cotton. The raw cotton of low grade has high content of impurities and defects, fine fibers and poor maturity, and there are many neps formed in the production process. Therefore, the amount of neps and impurities spun from different raw materials is incomparable, and cannot be used as an indicator to measure the performance of the spinning machine.

Caused during processing
Including the raw cotton rough processing ginning and spinning production process, the neps formed by ginning, mainly the neps produced by the sawtooth gin, the neps caused in the spinning process, including the neps formed when the fibers are loosened, the fibers The frictional resistance of the channel and the neps formed by sticking, entanglement, blocking and hanging, and the neps produced by the hook fibers during the drafting process.

Relationship between twist and strength of Nep Yarn

When the yarn is stretched to break, it is found that not all fibers on the broken section are broken, but some fibers are broken and other fibers slip, and the broken fibers are not broken at the same time. This breaking performance is closely related to the single yarn strength and the twist of the yarn. As the twist increases, the yarn strength continues to increase, but after a certain twist, the strength decreases if the twist is continued. The advantage is that the twist increases, the friction resistance between fibers increases, and the strength component increases during the breaking process. The disadvantage is that the twist As the twist increases, the inclination angle between the fiber and the yarn axis increases, and the component force that the fiber strength can withstand in the axial direction of the yarn decreases. In addition, excessive twist will increase the uneven stress distribution of the fibers inside and outside the yarn, aggravate the asynchronism of fiber breakage, and increase the strength with the increase of twist. When the two are equal, the strength is the largest. At this time, the twist is the critical twist, and the twist coefficient corresponding to the critical twist is called the critical coefficient. As the twist increases, the twist angle increases, and the light is reflected to the side, the gloss is poor and the feel is poor. On the contrary, the feel is soft, but if the twist is too small, hairiness and loose feel will occur, and the gloss may not be good.

The twist coefficient and twist direction are mainly determined by the quality requirements of the final product. The twist coefficient is different for different uses, and the twist direction depends on the needs of the finished product and post-processing. In order to reduce the inconvenience of overhauling and operation on the yarn machine, it is generally Z twist direction. For example, the twist coefficient of cotton with long fiber length, fineness and high grade can be lower, and the twist coefficient of fine yarn is larger than that of coarse yarn. The elongation is that when the cotton yarn is stretched under a certain tensile load, the cotton yarn is stretched and elongated, and its length is called the total elongation. When the load is removed, the stretched cotton yarn shrinks quickly and cannot return to its original length. This shrinkable length is the elastic elongation, that is, the percentage of elastic elongation to total elongation. The elasticity of the yarn increases with the increase of twist, but begins to decrease after a certain twist. Generally, the twist range close to the maximum elasticity is adopted.
